Instant Card

The Instant Card is a temporary virtual credit card (no plastic issued) for UC Santa Cruz Employees and Students while on official university business travel. This card is issued to UC travelers who do not have access to the Corporate Travel and Entertainment Card (CTE card). The Instant Card features a firm dollar limit with specific active dates for usage that cannot extend beyond one year.

How To Request A Card​

Fill out the Instant Card User Agreement Form, route it through DocuSign for the appropriate signatures.

The cardholder MUST have a mobile device with the ability to download the US Bank Instant Card mobile app to receive and use the Temporary Virtual Payment Card.​​

How to Use An Instant Card

To use the Instant Card at a tap-to-pay kiosk, simply open the US Bank Instant Card mobile app, select the card, then hold the mobile device to the tap-to-pay kiosk. For more information on using the Instant Card or paying using the card number, see How to Use Instant Card on the Mobile App.

Instant Card Reconciliation

How To Reconcile Your Instant Card Reconciling is required using CruzFly for each travel trip and/or entertainment event. An expense report will need to be completed for each trip and/or event.

Outstanding Instant Card reconciliations 60 days past due will result in suspension of the cardholder’s account. ​​​

CruzFly Videos Now Available
The first CruzFly navigation videos are now available on the CruzFly Video Resources page. These include how to login to CruzFly, and create an expense report; and how to enter FOAPAL information. We hope these videos can be used as a starting point for first time users, or refresher for those that don’t use CruzFly regularly. Additional videos will be added throughout the next year.
As always, CruzFly training is also available.

Enforcing Timely Submissions and Compliance with Tax Reporting Requirements
UC Policy requires all employees to report travel and entertainment expenses within 45 days of the end of the trip or event. In the past this requirement has not been strictly enforced, and late submissions carried no penalties.

Effective July 1, 2025, this requirement will be enforced.
